"Republic of Poland" vs "Poland"

At "Locations" statistic page, Poland is called with its full official name ("Republic of Poland"). It is kinda weird, only a few countries are treated in such a way. Why not just "Poland"?

I can't remember now and can't find the original message. I recall that I was messaged by someone who insisted it should be known as "Republic of Poland". I don't tend to change names lightly and always try to fact check as much as possible, but up to a point I can only rely on what others say, especially in the case of natives. After changing it I didn't receive any complaints or queries, so I felt it was probably the right thing to do.

However, searching online now, and as you pointed out, there is no obvious reason why Poland should be treated differently. I'm guessing you're Polish? In which case, if you can assure me that using "Poland" rather than "Republic of Poland" would be acceptable and not cause offence, I am happy to return it to "Poland".

True, but every country seems to have an "official" name. For example, the official name of Netherlands is "Kingdom of the Netherlands", Italy is "Italian Republic", and Oman is "Sultanate of Oman".

As marecik16 pointed out, in the entire list of locations we offer, we only seem to treat Poland to it's official name.

The kingdom of the Netherlands refers to the four countries: Aruba, Curacao, Sint Maarten and the Netherlands to be precise. If we talk about 'the kingdom' we refer to the conglomerate of these four countries. The European part of the kingdom is referred to by simply the Netherlands

Yes, I am polish, and for me naming my country "Republic of Poland" is strange and too official. "Germany" on wikipedia is also officially called "the Federal Republic of Germany", "Italy" = "Italian Republic", "France" = "French Republic", but no one use those names on a daily basis, only in official documents.

Do not get me wrong, if all countries would have a super official long name in stats, then I would be fine with this; if only my country are treated differently, then it looks like a joke: a hidden suggestion that there is something wrong with our republic or democracy

I am officially asking to rename the country back to "Poland" and I assure you that this is the most natural and correct way.

Thank you for raising this issue. You will be pleased to know that I have changed "Republic of Poland" to "Poland". I've also changed "Republic of El Salvador" to "El Salvador", which seemed to have the same treatment.
