According to my calculations $G(5) \approx 1.472470393$.
Can someone explain to me why this is not correct?

The question is asking for the largest possible area, so your value of G(5) is incorrect because there is a 5-gon with higher area within the desired region than your value.

There is a very tempting assumption to make about the polygon which turns out to be incorrect.
