Criteria for locking problem threads

Hi all.

I have a suggestion regarding the point at which a problem thread locks.

Instead of 100 posts, why not make it, say, 30 distinct posters. The reason I say this is that often times a few posters will go back and forth with replies, which kills the chance of a wider variety of solutions being discussed.

On the other hand, such discussions mostly arise from request for proofs of correctness for formulae and algorithms. Should people be unable to post those (or other information that might improve the general level of problem solving on PE)? Imho, the 100 post limit reassures that mostly all that is necessary to be said about a particular problem can be posted, and finds a good midway between information sharing and data storage issues. So, as for me, no adaptations required.
