First, solve the problem.
Then enter the private thread.

If you post a new thread and if it's a great thread, you can get "Kudos".



If you get many Kudos, you can get awards.

This all depends on the subject you want to cover in such a thread.

If related to a specific PE problem:
- You cannot start any new thread on the main PE site; you can only post in the existing problem thread after you have solved the problem.
- If you need some clarification on the wording of an existing problem (and you have not succeeded in solving it yet), you could start a new thread on this site IF AND ONLY IF a thread has not yet been started for it.

For all other subjects not related to any of the existing problems, you could start a new thread if one doesn't exist on such a subject.

As for "private" threads, such an option is not available on either site. However, you could send private messages to other PE members who may be willing to correspond with you.
