How Do I... Hide Text?

Post by euler » Mon Mar 27, 2006 4:43 pm

(Note that spaces need to be removed from BBCode tags to make them work. If in doubt click "Quote" and look at the code I used.)

Hiding text can be especially useful when you wish to post your solution to a problem and don't wish to influence the thinking of other members; a member needs to make a conscious decision to click to reveal the hidden section.

There are two ways to hide text:
  1. the [ s ] tag hides a DIVISION and is useful for hiding an extended section; it will even hide images. Text is revealed by clicking the "Reveal" link.
  2. the [ h ] tag hides a SPAN of text and is useful for hiding a single word/number in a sentence. Text is revealed by hovering the mouse over the hidden section.
Example 1

[ s ]This text was hidden

[ img ]images/avatars/gallery/mathematicians/euler.jpg[ / img ][ / s ]

produces
Expand
This text was hidden

Image
Example 2

The third [ h ]word[ / h ] in this sentence is hidden.

produces

The third word in this sentence is hidden.

BBcode does not work

the hidden text appears correctly,
but in all other posts, i see the [ h ] (even if there are no spaces, of course!)
also, other codes do not work for me :
e.g. on the thread about the chess game, the [ tt ] does not work,
and all [ hide=... ] don't work , either.
NB: I well have BBcode = ON !
?

When phpBB upgraded to version 3 the old customised BBcodes stopped working. I've fixed them so that they work again, but unfortunately due to the way that the software handles security (to stop code injection exploits), old posts will not display them properly anymore. However, if the original posters clicks "Edit" and clicks "Submit" without making any changes the BBcodes will take effect.
