Measuring the distance to another galaxy

Post by thundre » Thu Mar 07, 2013 12:38 pm

This is pretty cool. Astronomers already knew that the rotation period of a binary star was determined by the masses and distance, that the transmitted spectrum was determined by the mass, and that the observed spectrum was shifted depending on relative velocity. Now they have put it all together to measure distance more accurately.
