Re: Errors/Warnings/Bugs
Thank you for taking the time to explain. Sadly, that verification is nothing to do with anything I have added, so I can only imagine it has been put in place by our server hosts. I could understand if you're using a VPN and the server detects some anomaly in the originating IP address, but it seems...

Re: Errors/Warnings/Bugs
@byhill: Thanks for reporting the issue with best posts. That should be working again now as intended. However, I'm not fully understanding the second issue. Could you clarify what you mean by bot check? Certainly no changes have been made at .chat, so getting redirected to the forum home page seems...

Re: Errors/Warnings/Bugs
There shouldn't be any change there. As it explains in the privacy policy it can take time for the cache to update, but if you've made yourself private you should vanish on the next cache update.

Re: Errors/Warnings/Bugs
Thanks, both things should be fixed. Sadly there is very little visible for members, but the downtime was to upload new scripts that have made some significant and necessary changes to the back-end of the website. As a result, there are likely to be more unforeseen problems like this, so please do r...

Re: Errors/Warnings/Bugs
Thanks for the heads up. You were spot on about the problem. It couldn't find the image for level 34. Something else I'd missed. Oops! Anyway, both should be sorted now and I've modified the script so that it doesn't have a tantrum if it can't find the image file.

Re: Tag-Based Organisation
Good idea. I've added the following short paragraph to the section "I just can't figure out how to solve a particular problem. What should I do?" Another option is to enable tags from your Account page. You will be able to find a link next to the option on that page that tells you more abo...

Re: Excessive cooldowns
@Swistakk: I'd like to thank you for taking the time to raise this issue. In most cases, the wait times would have been activated as intended to deter unrealistic solve rates, but your solve history should not have triggered such an explosion of wait times; I wonder if this has impacted other outlie...

Re: Excessive cooldowns
@Swistakk: I can see that your wait times continue to increase (currently at 2 hours). You do seem to be an outlier and I have been analysing your data intensely. I am currently consulting with the admin team on possible changes, but as you can imagine any changes we make have far reaching consequen...

Re: Suggestion: Color-coding on the progress page
I'm very busy at the moment completing other back-end changes to the main website and life in general, but I'll certainly look into implementing this idea when I get the time.

Re: Errors/Warnings/Bugs
I don't know where else to post this, but in the solution thread for problem 7 (page 3) user melmoth posted two identical posts about 28 minutes apart. There is no reason for this user to have two permanent posts in this thread and take away from someone else who might have something to contribute....

Re: Errors/Warnings/Bugs
That occurs when something is interfering with your browser handling session variables. When this has been reported in the past it has usually been identified as one of two things: 1) A browser plug-in (often a dodgy version of ad-blocker - there are many!), 2) The browser is in developer mode. Try ...

Re: Additional option for account status
I've just realised that I didn't get back to you. Sorry about that. After your post we entered a long and careful discussion. As you can imagine these issues strike to the heart of privacy options and that is something we take very serious at Project Euler. But I'd like to thank you for enabling the...

Re: Personal Project/Website - Violation of Requirements?
Hi, jazzloffredo. Thank you for taking the time to outline your plan. We think it is entirely reasonable. The About section says, "as long as any discussion clearly aims to instruct methods, not just provide answers". You are doing more than just providing answer by giving instruction and ...

Re: Copyright and commercial use
Let me present a "childish" analogy... A group of master toymakers spend time designing and building the most beautiful toys for children. They pay for a building where children from all around can come to visit and play with the toys at no cost, regardless of their background. They ensure...

Re: Donate button visibility
Thank you for your donation. The placement of the donation button is quite intentional. We do not ask for or expect donations from any of our members and do not feel it is appropriate to make it highly visible. After being a member for quite some time, some members have sought a way to show their ap...

Re: Copyright and commercial use
@akirauler: I received the email, but I thought a public response would be more useful for others who might have the same question. As explained on the About page at the main site, Project Euler came into existence in 2001. Since then it has continued to grow and would not be what it was today witho...

Re: Project Euler Offline
Don't forget we have an API that allows scraping of different data (see Retrieving Minimal Information).
For example, https://projecteuler.net/minimal=1 will return the raw HTML for problem 1.

Coincidently, it appears to have happened on 20 July 2020, exactly three years ago today!
