Project Euler statistics

Hello! Was bored the last few days and was looking for some project to do. Well I have always wondered who is the problem solver on this website? Who is the best at solving superhard problem? Who has the most first places? How well do I rank up against the others? What is my best place? How many tim...

Re: Problem 713

I think you are thinking under wrong assumptions here. You know nothing about the fuses/batteries initially. For example you pick fuse number 1 and you test it together in pair with every other fuse and in none of the cases the heating system works. That means, that the fuse number 1 is definitely b...

Re: Removing incentive for spoilers

I imagine Project Euler as a journey. You have a series of challenging problems from various topics and you try to solve as many of them as possible. It is not meant for you to solve all the problems nor is it meant that you have the required knowledge. However, they give you an incentive to learn. ...

Re: Problem 713

Im going to give you an analogy to the problem so that things might be clearer for you. If moderators find this post inappropriate, feel free to remove it. Suppose you have N batteries, m of them are working and N-m are not working. Now you have an electronic device into which you have to insert 2 b...

Re: Tips for someone trying to get top 50?

Unless you already have a lot of experience solving some math based problems or other competitive programming problems, it will be very hard to solve a problem in the top 50. When I started solving 6 years back I remember that I found it incredibly difficult to solve any of the higher numbered probl...

Re: Suggestion - save to clipboard when posting?

Wau! This looks great.

Testes this a bit on mobile and it seems to work well. Intentionally left the page on few different problem threads and when I revisit the page and I can recover what I had previously written there.

Great job!

Re: Suggestion - save to clipboard when posting?

Another solution might be running a bit of javascript behind and saving your post content into local storage every few seconds.

Re: Is these statements allowed outside of ProjectEuler?

What HK said and I would add that between the 3 examples you gave, the first two are completely fine while the 3rd one, spoils the problem.

Same here. The number a player can choose is probably limited with n. Not sure though.

Re: Rule of Project Euler : Suggestion

I don't find the rule ambigous at all. You are not allowed to post solutions outside PE. What is the reason that you must share the code on external webpage and then promote it in the solution threads?

Doesn't it make the most sense that the row in a file corresponds to a row in a matrix?

Re: Importing libraries into Python

And now you first have to download the library from the internet. Some libraries come immediately with Python download and some you need to download manually. The easiest way to do it is to call: "pip install numpy" in the command line. If that doesnt work, google how to install numpy and ...

They are given as rows. So the first row in the text file is the first row of the matrix and so on.

It's a pointless debate really. But I will point out a few spots which I do find aggresive and that I wouldn't use if I just wanted to make a suggestion. ... Plus, the names are sorted by letter, but within each letter it isn't alphabetical!! ... (Notice the double exclamation mark at the end) ' ......

Re: Some features that are not available on this site

Pretty aggresive post imo. 1) You can't get private messages on Project Euler site. Does it happen very often that you get private messages here on the forum? 2) Wherever I look, members are sorted either by the place they completed the problem or by the number of problems solved. Could you pinpoint...

Re: Why does the amount of 80% problems keep changing?

But the difficulty might still change after those 100 solvers right? I believe that the difficulty of problem 541 went up from 85 to 90 some time after I managed to solve it. I think the difficulty of problem 589 is also slowly increasing :D Or are just the first 100 solvers considered as a metric f...

I do think this is considered a straight 5 high.

Are there many hands where this is a problem? Otherways you can try 2 or 3 values if there are a few hands with this occurence.

Re: Errors/Warnings/Bugs

Yes, many of the problems here are based on well known formulas, theorems, algorithms and so on. If you are researching a problem, you are learning and you might also come indirectly across the solution. It happens. I don't think there is anything you can do about it. But researching a topic and sea...
